FAQs for USA Materials:
Q1. Is there an add-on for the US with typical wall types, Materials, cladding, etc.?
A1. There isn't a US add-on as such but there are US settings & things already within the software. I've explained the different parts below.
-
- Wall types: I would recommend creating vignettes in a SketchUp model of the common wall types they use & then saving it as a template. Once this is done the walls will always be in the model & they can "create similar wall" the wall they want to use via the right-click menu.
- Materials, cladding, etc: There is a USA material library that should be selected by default that has USA materials & sizes already installed. If not this can be changed in the Settings Tool (Extensions > PlusSpec > Settings)
Q2. Also, do you have (FIS) feet, inches, and sixteenths? Some programs that are in the US have FIS capabilities and it is very helpful and speeds input.
A2. In the Setting Tool, if they set the Dialog Units to "use model default" then the dialogs will use the model units set in the SketchUp file (i.e. go to Window > Model Info > Units then make sure Format is 'Architectural'). This will allow feet, inches & fractions to be entered into the measurement fields.
